This homemade granola recipe is the perfect solution for both nutritional and delicious. It is definitely a great snack too, especially when you are craving something sweet but want to stay away from guilty indulgence. The store bought granola are always loaded with more sugar. The best part of making homemade granola is that you can customize it your own way, add just as much sweetener you prefer. Add your choice of fruits, nuts or seeds. All it needs is a little imagination to make it your own way.
Ingredients you need for Homemade Granola
Whole grain: e.g. Rolled Oats, Quinoa Flakes, Barley or Rye Flakes! For this recipe, I used plain rolled oats. Nuts and Seeds: e.g. Almond, Cashew, Walnut, Sesame Seeds, Chia Seeds, Melon Seeds or Sunflower Seeds. I used almond, walnut and chia seeds. Fat to bind it together: e.g. Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Canola Oil, Melted Butter or Ghee. I used Vegetable oil. Sweetener: e.g. Maple Syrup, Honey, Molasses or Melted Jaggery. I used maple syrup. Toppings: e.g. Dried Fruits, Coconut Flakes, Chocolate Chips, Cocoa Nibs, Crystallized Ginger or Candied Orange Peel. I kept it simple and used just raisins. You could also add spices like cinnamon, all spice or pumpkin spice mix too. Just get the measurements right and then, make it your own way as per your taste buds or craving!
Steps to prepare Granola at Home
1- In a mixing bowl add all the ingredients except for dried fruits and chocolate chips if using. Combine all the dry and wet ingredients evenly. 2- Layer it on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven. 3- Take it out every 15 minutes and toss it around. It usually takes 3 to 4 times depending on the type of baking pan using. Keep in mind that some baking pan bakes faster and sometimes a little more time. 4- Once done, toss it around one more time and add the dry fruits. Let it cool down completely before you store the baked Granola.
Granola Storage Tips
To maintain its freshness and crunch, proper storage is key. Cool Completely Before Storing Use Airtight Containers. Depending on the weather condition and how humid it is, you can place a food-safe silica gel pack in the container. Refresh soggy Granola by baking it again for 10 minutes. Cool completely and then store again. Serve granola with milk or top it on plain yogurt! Add it to your chia pudding or make a fancy, colorful parfait. Either way, it’s delicious healthy food to kick-start your day. So, try this Super Simple Fruit and Nut Granola and let me know what you think of it.
